Fertility and IVF

As a female we accept it as our biological right to have children and why should we question this..it's nature!  However, more and more women are now finding it difficult to conceive, with an increase in women being diagnosed with conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

For any women being given the news they have fertility problems is devastating and can lead to difficulties in acceptance and dealing with the accompanying emotions, which in turn increases stress levels contributing further to the issue of fertility.

Hypnotherapy can help with the stress and subconscious worries that may be preventing conception.  Recent medical studies have supported the role hypnotherapy has in helping infertility and increasing couples success rate with IVF.  Hypnosis is also invaluable for preparing yourself for IVF when it comes to giving up smoking and removing phobias such as fear of needles that could hinder the IVF process.

Improving IVF success rate

Embarking on an IVF programme can be an emotional journey both mentally and physically. It is for this reason that you need to be in the right frame of mind, ensuring you are in the best shape you can be physically and mentally.  You will no doubt have been advised to stop drinking alcohol, and to give up smoking.  However, stress can be the main contributor to the inability to conceive and the process of IVF can be extremely stressful.  You may have prepared your body for conception physically but what about your mind?

Maintaining a state of calm and relaxation is so important.  Many try to continue normally and forget to set aside time for rest and relaxation.  When trying to grow follicles you should be rested and de-stressed, giving yourself time to focus on what you are trying to achieve.  Continued life stress and anxiety can get in the way of success.  There is a close relationship between the level of stress hormones and reproductive hormones, these levels can have a dramatic effect on the hormonal balance necessary for ovulation, fertilization and even the successful implantation of the egg once it reaches the womb.

Preparing yourself mentally is vital and hypnotherapy can help you to focus your mind and relax.  Utilising relaxation and visualisation techniques hypnotherapy can help you to become more in tune with your body and remain calm, relaxed and in control.

Inability to conceive - Mind over matter

It's not uncommon to hear a couple have taken years to conceive or in fact after trying for a baby nothing has happened and their doctor can find no medical explanation.  The mind has a powerful control over the body and we may unconsciously have been sending a message to our body that we are not ready for a baby!

That perhaps sounds almost like a contradiction in terms.  Surely if we have been trying for a baby we are ready for one?  Not necessarily!  There are unconscious factors that may be affecting your conception success:

  • Mood
  • Stress
  • Unresolved emotional issues
  • Fear

Hypnotherapy can break down the unconscious barriers that may be affecting conception and help you to take back control of your body mentally and prepare you for pregnancy.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

PCOS is a metabolic disorder that disrupts your hormones and increases certain sex hormones and insulin.  Although recognised as a medical disorder, the search for the underlying cause of the condition is still ongoing.

What we do know is that PCOS can cause fertility issues as symptoms such as absent/irregular periods and cysts on your  ovaries can contribute to difficulties in conceiving.  However, it should be noted that despite fertility problems 70 per cent of women with PCOS do conceive naturally.

Hypnotherapy in conjunction with treatment given by your doctor can help symptoms of PCOS and improve chances of conceiving,  Hypnosis is non-evasive and can treat subconscious worries that may be preventing conception.

Some researchers have even suggested that PCOS could have something to do with our mental or emotional state and that PCOS may worsen mood and anxiety symptoms.  Hypnotherapy can help reduce anxiety, stress levels, depression and help you take charge of your emotions.
